Trees, Trees, Trees

Thursday, December 5
will be the city’s annual tree lighting festivities on the New Haven Green. The event starts this thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. and will go on until 8. Santa, who really seems to get around this time of year, is attending, as are “mechanical animals” for riding. The fun filled event is one you can not miss out on. So come out with me and welcome the Christmas season. See you Thursday! ;)

What’s Going On In New Haven

On Tuesday, November 26, 2013, the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History opened a new exhibit: From Mercury to Earth? A Meteorite Like No Other. This exibit features the largest fragment of the “first-known meteorite from mercury”. I implore all to go see it. I Cant Believe It!

Hey! Did you know that the fall semester of my senior year is almost over? I have spent three wonderful years of my life here at Albertus. Despite the struggle of balancing a heavy work load, and my personal life, I have learned to appreciate all aspects of college life. This is definitely the time in my life where I am searching for the next step. Albertus has helped me in the journey of finding myself. The career services are now working with me, and holding my hand through this chapter. I encourage all students to utilize this facility. It is a great help!

Missing Class

Now, I don't know about you but I love going to my classes. If I miss just one day I feel out of place. for those of you who skip class because you just don't feel like going, shame on you! You, Your parents/guardians, and the lovely tax payers dollars are all invested in your education. Why would you want to miss out on something like that? Get the most out of your college experience, the cost of tuition is not cheep, so invest wisely in your education, and your future.

Costume Ideas

Halloween is right around the corner, and it's a holiday that not a lot of people celebrate solo.  Below I have listed 3 easy DIY costume ideas that would be great for groups. Embrace the communal aspect and get a group to go together in costume. Group costumes can be a ton of fun for any kind of group, be it family, friends or co-workers.
  1.  101 Dolmations and Cruella DeVille- This is an easy one. With all white T-shirts paint black spots (not too neat). Now for Mrs. DeVille. Every girl has her favorite black dress, so just slip that on with  a pair of red heels. Add black rope or yarn as collars and youre done.
  2. Scrabble or more literally words with friends-With cardboard boxes cut out several squares. Use string to tie a waist band. Lastly, with a black sharpie color in letters.
  3. Oompa Loompas and Willie Wonk- All you need are white pants, brown shirt and white tape to make the X over the shirt. Hit the drug store for the most orange bronzer you can find. If you have someone who wants to be Willy Wonka, get a curly wig or just don a top hat.

Monster Mash

Halloween is just around the corner and I am well prepared, are you? Last night here are Albertus, we had our annual Monster Mash dance. The room was packed with the regular goblins and witches, dancing the night away. Now if you've misses out on this fun event we have the Haunted Maze coming up. View Albertus current events for more details.

I also linked a picture of my costume make up. Let me know how you like it?

The Mountain of Work

Its almost mid term time, and the work seems to be just piling on, one after another. What I've found to ease my stress level is to prioritize. Whether it is color coating, or organizing assignments according to due dates, these simple steps can help you get the grades you've been striving for. So get to the library and unleash your inner bookworm.
Also, Monday, September 30th, 2013 at 8pm, McAuliffe Hall will be having a study group. So if you need some extra help, feel free to come over and join us.

Helping Hands

We at Albertus believe strongly in the power of serving our community.  Reaching out to others isn't as hard as it seems. Just one smile has the ability to brighten someones day. This small gesture is shows compassion and is a great way to make a contribution to your community. Now if you're an over achiever like me there is a great opportunity for you to help here on campus. Tonight our student government association (SGA) is hosting the late night event Thing Globally Act Locally.  I encourage everyone to participate in this community service project, But don't stop there. Reach out in any way you can. Make the difference, and lend a helping hand!

A Bitter Sweet Day

Have you ever had one of those days where you wished that you were two places at once? This seems to be an everyday struggle for me! It's either run here, go there. WAIT! You forgot about this. My mind is constantly on shuffle. I wish that I was able to clone myself, just to relieve some of the stress.

Yesterday the Albertus Magnus Women’s Tennis team had an away match against Mitchell College. The bus was to leave at 1:30, and as we all know tennis matches can go on for a lifetime, so there was not definite time as to when we would be back. Now, form 5-9pm, New haven was hosting their semi-annual College Night on Broadway. This event includes free ice cream, music, palm readings, henna tattoos, half off gear from local stores, and so much more. I desperately wanted to go!

So, there I was, faced with another dilemma. Either I go with my team, play my heart out, and support the other players or enjoy all the benefits of having a social life, and go hang out downtown. Now of course I made the right decision in sticking by my team where we reaped the benefit of gaining the first win of the season, but I would have loved to just hang out with some friends and have a good time.

Do you ever have instances where events on your schedule overlap? Do you have any tricks for managing a busy schedule? I know we can all use all the help we can get! So please feel free to share your tips. Maybe we can all help one another.
